Bill Angus - Artist

"My paintings are a fusion of experience, experiment and imagination. In my landscapes and seascapes I want to evoke a feeling of atmosphere with light, threatening skies, but depicting my own interpretation rather than a direct likeness"

Bill Angus was born and brought up in Dundee in the 1950's, and his commitment to art began when he chose to pursue a career as a commercial artist. He started working life as an employee of Modern Postcards and Show Cards, a company renowned for their graphics; in particular their posters, screen printing and sign writing. During his time at Modern, Bill would not only develop and advance his skills, he would also come to understand and embrace the role of art and graphics in the wider world.

Bill has always painted and created work through various mediums, and considers himself a 'contemporary impressionist'. He describes his work as a blend of experience, experimentation, and imagination. In his landscapes and seascapes, he seeks to convey the essence of the atmosphere, often using light and juxtaposing dramatic skies, with an emphasis on his personal interpretation rather than a literal depiction.

Bill's work has been shown in many locations across Scotland, his paintings have proved popular with the audiences and have received much acclaim.

More recently Bill has been an active member of Broughty Ferry Art Society, displaying artwork in their well known annual exhibition. In 2022, one of his paintings was declared 'Best in Show' via a public vote, and in 2023 Bill was awarded the Broughty Ferry Art Society trophy by an independent panel of judges.
